Dominating the pilgrimage place at the foothill of the Krušné hory (Mountains) is the grand Cistercian monastery that determined, for centuries, the history of the town and the wide surroundings. The monastery, founded at the end of the 12th century, was gradually extended in the style of Burgundian Gothic with later Baroque adjustments. The core of the present-day complex is the Baroque temple of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, built as Romanesque basilica at the beginning of the 13th century. The most valuable part of the monastery is represented by the early Gothic capitular hall with Romanesque stone reading pulpit with the base in the form of a knot. In the monumental area of the monastery the visitors may see the paradise courtyard with ambits, the well chapel and also the picturesque terrace garden divided into the decorative and utility parts. Running and still water, sculptures, minor architecture and valuable decorative wood species created a remarkable landscape whole there.
