South Moravia

Picture South Moravia, the region with thousand year tradition of growing vine, is rich in varied monuments the history of which reaches from the works of the first inhabitants up to thoroughly modern works. The metropolis of South Moravia is Brno, the second largest city of the Czech Republic the dominant of which is the castle Špilberk and the Gothic cathedral. A unique monument is the functionalistic villa Tugendhat, inscribed in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. The second UNESCO monument is the Lednice-Valtice Area, the most extensive composed landscape in the world. To the north of Brno there is the Moravian Karst, the karst area with more than a thousand caves. Deserving attention is also the well-known folklore area of Slovácko, the biospheric preserve Pálava and the Bílé Karpaty or the National Park Podyjí. Excelling among the architectonic jewels are the monasteries in Rajhrad and Předklášteří u Tišnova, the pilgrimage place Velehrad, the chateaus in Bučovice, Milotice, Slavkov u Brna and Vranov nad Dyjí or the castles Bítov, Buchlov and Pernštejn.
It is possible to begin getting acquainted with the novelties of South Moravia in a stylish manner by the visit to the wine cellars, a trip along the new wine-growing instruction path or by passing the vintner‘s school-leaving examination. The cultural offer represents the memorial of Moravian literature, the theatre and the newly opened chateau. Entertainment and rest are offered by golf courses, the new spa house or observation voyages through the Lednice-Valtice Area.
